Marion County Courthouse - Ocala, Florida April 28, 2010

We always go through Ocala, Florida to get to St. Augustine on our way to visit Nate (Dave's son).  Unfortunately, the old historic courthouse in Marion County has been torn down and replaced by a newer more modern building.  A search on the Internet though did come up with some old pictures of the historic courthouses in Ocala.  The modern building was captured by us on one of our trips through Ocala and the pictures of the older buildings are copies of what we found on the Internet.

Polk County Court House, Bartow, Florida - April 1, 2010

Polk County, one county over from us, has an old courthouse along with a newer one.  Of course, we want to capture the older historic courthouses.  Since Bartow is not that far from us, we hopped on the motorcycle and took a nice ride there.  The pictures shown here are of the older historic one.  It would be nice if we could ride the motorcycle to visit all the courthouses in Florida, but I don't think our butts could take it.

Pasco County Courthouse, Dade City, Florida - March 27, 2010

Since we live in Pasco County, we didn't have to travel very far to capture pictures of the Pasco County Courthouse in Dade City.  Only nine miles from home, we love to visit Dade city, and enjoy visiting our favorite restaurants.

Sumter County Courthouse - February 10, 2010

Our first courthouse quest/road trip was to Bushnell, Florida, which is less than an hour from home.  Note that we are wearing winter jackets.  Contrary to popular belief, it is sometimes cool in Florida or maybe our blood has thinned.

How It Began

In 2009, Dave and Roz became full-time residents of Florida.  On one of our first road trips, we went to the Florida State Fair and saw exhibits from many counties in Florida.  We noted that Florida has 67 counties. Each county has a county seat and most have beautiful, historic courthouses.  We came up with the idea "why not take pictures of all the old courthouses in Florida."  That's where the idea was hatched.  The following pictures and stories will show the reader how we set out to accomplish our goal.
